Due to the overwhelming reponse to our first January Photography Basics 101, The Photography Room is pleased to offer a second round of four-week intensive classes! Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest in an additional class! Our next session will begin in March. It is being offered at an exceptional value of $199. The participation limit will be set at 15 students. Both film and digital shooters are welcome.

PHOTOGRAPHY BASICS 101

Join seasoned instructor Brian Kelly for a comprehensive look at the fundamentals of making a great photograph. This will be a lively and informative course with plenty of practical instruction to get you started. Class participation will be encouraged. Small assignments will get you familiar with the basic concepts of camera functions, as well as how to read light and simple composition rules. Brian's straight forward teaching style will show you how to understand the basics in a way that will give you the knowledge you need to shoot more confidently.

Week 1 - Camera Functionality: Learn how your camera works as well as how to evaluate and meter light. You will also discover how to choose the most appropriate ASA for each lighting situation.

Week 2 - Shutter & Aperture: You will be taught to understand the relationship between aperture and shutter speed, and how to manipulate these to make a better photograph.

Week 3 - Composition & In-Studio Assignment: Find out the practical applications to controlling depth-of-field and composing a scene in your viewfinder. You will learn what to look for and how to avoid common mistakes. You will have a hands-on opportunity in the studio to put your knowledge to work.

Week 4 - Review & Share Photographs: This class will focus on what you have learned in the previous weeks. This will be an opportunity to bring in the photographs you have made. You will evaluate and discuss the work in a friendly group atmosphere.
